Etched metal focals for I Might Make That! Monday

Whew boy. Real life has set in--work (including a few Saturday commitments), school demands, a few extraneous volunteer commitments, building inventory for a mid-November craft sale. I intend to keep blogging through it all, but expect a lot of short, quick posts like this one for the next few months.

Here's a great tute on metal etching from Rings & Things that I'd love to try. Lots of pics and lots of links for those who want to read more. Has anybody tried this? Share in the comments if you have.

No need to worry about catching up, we all have commitments which keep us from beading and blogging so we understand.

Etching seems like something that could be picked up with little expense and limited space. I do worry about disposing of the chemicals. I absolutely love some of the handmade claps I see others doing.

Why 'Torque Story'?

What does the name of my blog mean? I'm no physicist, but my understanding of "torque" is that it is force that causes a thing to rotate. Many of my designs--from my peyote-stitched and Russian spiral necklaces to my intricately braided kumihimo cords--feature spirals created by torque.

The spirals and twisty-bumpy beading and braiding techniques hold special resonance for me because they symbolize the journey we all take that makes us who we are. We set out on straight paths but take various twists and turns as life gets in the way. This makes us far more interesting people, and makes for far more interesting jewelry.
